How to Paint Your Outdoor Wood Furniture
To paint your wooden tables and chairs, you will need:

> Dust sheet
> Flat scraper
> Soap
> Sponge
> Clean cloth
> Paint brush
> Dulux Primer & Undercoat for Wood, if working with new or bare wood
> Sandpaper
> Dulux Weathershield Quick Dry Undercoat
> Dulux Weathershield Exterior wood paint

Step 1: Lay a dust sheet beneath the area you will be working in to prevent any paint spillages from staining your floor. Then scrape and sand off any flaking paint, mould or surface residue before thoroughly cleaning the furniture with soap and a sponge, and allow the area to dry.

Step 2: If working on previously treated or painted wood surfaces, move on to step 3, but if you’re working with new or bare wood surfaces, prepare them by painting on two coats of Dulux Primer with a clean paintbrush, leaving two hours between coats before moving on to the next step.

Step 3: Lightly sand the surface down and dust with a cloth before applying two coats of our Dulux Weathershield Quick Dry Undercoat, and leave two hours for it to dry before moving on to step 4.

Step 4: Using a brush, evenly apply a coat of Dulux Weathershield Exterior paint, working with the grain for a smooth finish. Wait two hours for your topcoat to dry.

Step 5: If you’re using a darker colour to paint your outdoor furniture, do a second coat.

Step 6: Once you’re finished, try and remove as much paint from the brushes as possible before rinsing with water. Wait a day before using your revamped garden furniture to ensure that it’s completely dry.

Metal Furniture

How to Paint Your Metal Garden Furniture

Painting metal garden furniture is just as easy. Whether you’re working on chairs, tables or other outdoor accessories, transform discarded pieces into vibrant focal points of your garden with our step-by-step guide below.

While metal furniture that’s left outdoors can be prone to weather damage, Dulux Weathershield paints prevent algae, moss and staining so that your garden décor remains protected for longer.

You will need:

> Dust sheet
> Flat scraper
> Soap
> Gloves
> Fungicidal wash
> Sponge
> Clean cloth
> Paint brush
> Sandpaper
> Dulux Primer & Undercoat for Multi Surfaces, when working on bare metal
> Dulux Weathershield Quick Dry Undercoat
> Dulux Weathershield Exterior metal paint

Step 1: Place your dust sheet under the area you will be working in to avoid the floor being stained by stray paint splatters.

Step 2: You’ll then need to prepare your surfaces by thoroughly cleaning, sanding and scraping the metal garden furniture to remove any dirt and flaking paint. This will ensure a smoother finish.

Step 3: Use fungicidal wash for any algae that has grown. Wear gloves to apply it, before leaving for 24 hours and washing off with water.

Step 4: For bare metal, apply two coats of the Dulux Primer & Undercoat for Multi Surfaces, which acts as a two-in-one primer and undercoat, with a clean paintbrush. For previously painted and treated metal, use the Dulux Weathershield Quick Dry Undercoat. This step helps towards ensuring your painted furniture is waterproof and weather-proof. Leave two hours for this to dry.

Step 5: Now, paint your topcoat onto your metal garden furniture using Dulux Weathershield Exterior paint in the shade and finish of your choice.

Step 6: Apply a second coat if you’re using a darker hue for your furniture.

Step 7: Your paint will need at least six hours to completely dry. It should now be looking brand new and ready to debut at your next garden party.
